Stephen Jackson Wins Eighth Annual Angela & Christopher Cohan Community Service Award

Golden State Warriors guard/forward Stephen Jackson has been named the recipient of the Eighth Annual Angela & Christopher Cohan Community Service Award, the team announced today.

The Angela & Christopher Cohan Community Service Award is given each season to the Warriors player who best exemplifies the spirit of community service during the season through their outstanding commitment of time, service and financial support to children and families in the Bay Area.

Among his various community contributions during the 2007-08 campaign, Jackson was extremely active in activities that allowed him to interact and give back to young people in the Bay Area, as well as his hometown of Port Arthur, TX. In addition to several school visits and other personal appearances he made during this past season, the highlights of his community outreach during the 2007-08 campaign include:

Joining forces with Southwest Airlines to host the Stephen Jackson Essay Contest, in which 10 elementary school children from Port Arthur were flown to the Bay Area, where they got to meet Jackson and attend a Warriors home game.

Launching the Jack 1 Foundation, to assist underprivileged kids and families in need.

As part of the Warriors Player Ticket Program, purchasing 25 tickets for each home game and invited community groups to attend games and sit in his special “Jack’s 1’s” seating section.

“It is an honor to present this award to Stephen,” said Warriors’ President Robert Rowell. “Since becoming a member of the Golden State Warriors in January of 2007, he has been a great addition to our organization and the Bay Area community. His commitment to give back to his community, especially to young people, is something that he takes very seriously and this recognition is well deserved.”

Jackson, who also received the NBA Community Assist Award for the month of March for his continued community work, was recognized in a special on-court presentation with Rowell prior to the Warriors regular season finale versus the Seattle SuperSonics.
