I wonder if the head coaching vacancy in Golden State piqued the interest of Mike D'Antoni.

The Warriors have the type of roster - Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry, David Lee - best suited to play his up-tempo style and D'Antoni would be returning to the Western Conference where he enjoyed his greatest success as a coach.

The timing, however, may not be right. D'Antoni is under contract for next season and he would prefer to remain in New York, even if he's not coaching the Knicks, until his son graduates high school in a few years.

Of course, if D'Antoni feels this may be the best opportunity to secure a long-term deal he might reconsider. It was clear that after two seasons of cap clearing, D'Antoni enjoyed coaching the pre-Carmelo Anthony Knicks.

Raymond Felton was playing at a faster pace and D'Antoni was encouraged by the progress of both Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler. The Knicks with Melo didn't play nearly as quickly or perform as well; the Knicks before Carmelo were two games over .500. The Knicks with Carmelo were four games under .500 if you include Boston's four-game sweep.

And with Chauncey Billups coming back to run the point for another season, D'Antoni will be forced to play slower and run more isolations for Carmelo. It's not his style. The Warriors play his style which was made famous by Don Nelson and taken to a new level by D'Antoni.

And now Golden State is looking for a new head coach. I wonder if Mike is looking as well.
